Interested in starting your own law firm podcast?
So many lawyers I speak with are, but don’t have the staff, the knowledge or the resources to do so. Let’s just put it out there now — starting your own podcast is HARD to do and this is why:
- After defining who your target audience will be you’ll need to develop your content — what questions does your typical audience have and how can you solve their problems.
- Next you’ll have to define what format you’d like to use. Will you be interviewing guests, doing a solo cast or will you be bantering with another host.
- After that you’ll need to decide on your frequency and how long each episode will last.
- Now comes the real biggie…the TECH part. The word alone is enough to make us all cringe! Hardware, software, microphones, audio interfacing and final editing.
- Finally you’ll need to know all about hosting and syndication. Your blog has to live somewhere and and you need to get it out there…think Apple and Google Play and connecting these services to the RSS or subscription feeds.
What a headache, right? Not with AJIS.com. We take the headache out of it for you. Yes, we’ve been solving marketing problems for lawyers since 1996 and continue to do so with our newest digital podcast service.

Why you should consider starting a podcast.
- Let Your Audience Get To Know the Real You.
This is the same advice I give when asked about using video. Whether you like it or not, your target audience really does want to get to know you before hiring you. When given the opportunity to hear you speak, enjoy your sense of humor, and most importantly feel your passion they can start to form a relationship with you. Much more so than they would by merely reading something you wrote. - Expand Your Reach.
A podcast gives you the opportunity to not only draw prospective clients but also reach industry influencers in your field. And it’s industry influencers you want for compelling interviews. We find conducting interviews to be the best podcast format since it markets you AND the one you’re interviewing — a win-win for everyone. - It Actually Saves Time.
Let’s face it…if you’re thinking about starting a podcast, chances are you’re already blogging and writing articles or books by now. It’s what leaders do — they share their knowledge and then invite others in to give them more knowledge they can share with their network. Now look at the time it takes to write books and well thought out blogs. Wouldn’t you much rather spend 15 or so minutes a week sharing your expertise that gains prospective clients and widens your influential network? I sure would!
Tips on Using a Podcast For Marketing.
Love Your Topic
Any ‘Start A Business 101’ will teach you that to have a successful business you have to love it. So it should be no surprise that you’ve got to love your podcast topic. When you love what you’re speaking on, it becomes an absolute pleasure to do it before a camera every week.
Emulate Your Favorite Podcast
If you want to start a podcast chances are you’re already listening to and enjoying other podcasts. Listen carefully and learn from the ones you love. Are they sole hosted or interview style; Is there a partner there to banter with; Decide on how much of your personality you want to come through.
Know More
There are so many podcasters out there right now that you have to stand out and have deeper knowledge than your competition. If you focus on one area of the law, know it all the way or even develop your own niche in that area.
Be Timely
The goal of every podcaster is put out information WHEN it matters, in a timely fashion. Consider topics that audiences want to hear about right now. (Like one I did on law graduates during the 2020 pandemic)
Choose a Schedule and Stick To It
Before you start your podcast you must decide on how often you’ll cast and when it airs. I do mine every Monday but you may be more comfortable every other Wednesday — it all depends on you. The important thing is once you establish your schedule, stick to it. Your listeners will start looking forward to your next one and you don’t want to disappoint them.
Book Guests Your Audience is Interested In
If you want to mix it up by using interviews every so often, remember that the more engaging your guests, the more your listeners will want to return again and again. Also make sure to have a draft script for them on things you’ll want to talk about and review it with them before the actual interview. Then to make it even more interesting, I personally use this tactic…ask my guest to not let me know an answer or two so it will be the first time I’m hearing their response and have a real-time reaction.
